Early settlers of Michigan experienced a profound challenge in the form of mosquitos and malaria. Alexis de Tocqueville, the famous French diplomat and philosopher, was astonished at the number of mosquitos he encountered during his visit to the territory in 1831. Join us to learn more about the three aspects of early Michigan ecology and history that made for such significant populations of this infamous insect and disease.
