Michigan History Day Manager

The Historical Society of Michigan seeks a senior manager to serve as Michigan History Day Manager. The Michigan History Day Manager supports HSM’s mission by executing our K-12 educational programs and curriculum, the largest of which is Michigan History Day®. A successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Education and Member Services to oversee and execute operations and logistics for the Michigan History Day program (National History Day in Michigan) and serve as State Coordinator for the program and perform outreach to K-12 classrooms.

Michigan History Day, a project-based learning program of the Historical Society of Michigan, is a yearlong educational program that encourages students to explore local, state, national, and world history. After selecting a historical topic that relates to the annual theme, students conduct extensive research by using libraries, archives, museums, and oral history interviews. They analyze and interpret their findings, draw conclusions about their topics’ significance in history, and create final projects in one of five categories: paper, exhibit, documentary, website, or performance.

Development Specialist

The Historical Society of Michigan seeks a qualified individual to serve as Development Specialist. The Development Specialist is a part time position that plays a key role in the development that supports the educational mission of the nonprofit and nongovernmental Historical Society of Michigan, the oldest cultural institution in the state, founded in 1828.

The Development Specialist will assist the Director of Development with planning, directing, and coordinating fundraising activities for the Historical Society of Michigan. The Development Specialist and the Director of Development will provide leadership for the creation of strategic fund development initiatives to include a major and planned giving program, annual giving, donor stewardship and recognition programs, and public relations related to development. To learn more about this position CLICK HERE.

Member Relations and Development Assistant


The Historical Society of Michigan seeks a qualified individual to serve as the Member Relations and Development Assistant. The Member Relations and Development Assistant will assist in interactions with Society members, magazine subscribers, and donors, with a focus on providing them a first-class customer experience; and play a support role for the Member Relations and Development Manager and Director-level staff. This is a part-time position.
