HSM Trustee Judy Lloyd Passed Away June 1

The Historical Society of Michigan is deeply saddened by the news that Mrs. Judy Lloyd passed away on Wednesday June 1, 2005 of injuries sustained in a car accident in western Michigan the previous week.

Judy was a well known community activist in the Grand Rapids area. In addition to her work with the Historical Society of Michigan, she dedicated herself to many local organizations including the local YWCA, the Arts Council of Greater Grand Rapids, the Grand Rapids Public Museum and Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital.

"I had the opportunity to get to know Judy in the 1990s as we served together on the HSM Board" commented Executive Director Larry Wagenaar. "Judy was a delightful person and was always there for the Society, she actively supported our educational initiatives, publications and conferences. She was also a personal friend and neighbor. We would even see each other regularly at the local grocery store near her home in Cascade, outside of Grand Rapids, and loose ourselves in conversation somewhere by the green beans or produce section!"

Before her new Board term which began last fall, Mrs. Lloyd served on the HSM Board of Trustees from 1994 to 2000 and served as Secretary and Chair of the Nominating Committee. She is survived by her husband Mike and two children Matt (37) and Kris (31).
