Local Historical Society Grants Cut from State Budget
December 12, 2003

EAST LANSING: As a result of additional cuts to the state budget included in Gov. Granholm's December 10, 2003 Executive Order, the $100,000 grant program that was to be administered by the Department of History Arts and Libraries has been eliminated for this fiscal year. Funds to support Michigan History Day were also eliminated. While these cuts will eliminate this funding for FY 2004, the Historical Society of Michigan will be actively involved in working to reinstate these funds for the next budget year.

Local Society members and officers are encouraged to contact their state senators, representatives and Governor Granholm's office to let them know how critically these funds are needed and how important that they be either reinstated in any later supplemental spending bill (should the state's revenues improve) or in the budget for FY 2005.
