Bus Tour: The Many Faiths of Southeast Michigan

Are you interested in learning about different world religions? If so, please join the Historical Society of Michigan on Thursday, August 15, as we visit houses of worship reflecting four faith communities in Southeast Michigan: Islamic Center of America Antiochian Orthodox Church Temple of the Jain Society of Great Detroit Temple Beth El, the oldest Jewish synagogue in the Detroit area Those on the bus tour will also learn about other faiths found throughout Michigan, including Buddhism, Hinduism, Confucianism, and more. Dr. Jim McConnell, a former HSM Board of Trustees member and a Detroit Historical Society volunteer, will discuss many key points behind these religions, including their founders, important locations, holy books, and faith concepts. Annette McConnell will serve as Tour Facilitator. The bus tour will depart at 9 a.m. from Meijer, located at 20401 Haggerty Road in Northville. Guests will enjoy lunch at East Side Mario’s, located at 31630 Plymouth Road in Livonia. The bus will return to Meijer at 5 p.m. The full tour—including lunch, resource materials, admissions, and gratuities— is $99 for HSM members and $139 for non-members.
