May 10: Lansing
The David R. Caterino Collectors Showcase will take place in the Lower Galleries of the Capital Area District Library from 10 am to 4 pm. Lansing area authors and collectors will display a variety of items focusing on the Lansing area. For more information call Craig Whitford at (517) 694- 0556.
May 17: Grass Lake
The Waterloo Area Historical Association is hosting an Antique Tractor, Truck and Farm Equipment show at the Waterloo Farm Museum. This event is free, and will feature over 100 antiques. For more information please contact Ron Raiser as (517) 851-8745.
May 17 & 18: Owosso
Join us on a round-trip excursion between Owosso and Clare behind the Pere Marquette 1225. The excursion will depart Owosso at 9:00 a.m. each day and will arrive in Mt. Pleasant around 12:00 noon. After a short layover, the train will proceed on to Clare. The train is scheduled to arrive back in Owosso by 8:00 p.m. We offer a few different options for this trip; and tickets can be purchased online at www.michigansteamtrain.com.
May 20: Midland

History comes alive through song and story when Dennis Pilaske, Chippewa Nature Center's Director of Interpretation performs traditional and original songs about the fur trade in this family friendly event. The presentation is part of the Heritage Series of lectures presented by the Midland County Historical Society and takes place at 7:30 p.m. in the Whitman Room of the Herbert D. Doan Midland County History Center, 3417 W. Main Street in Midland. Admission is $5 for the public and free from MCHS members. June 7 & 8: Grass Lake
The Waterloo Area Historical Society's Farm Museum will feature an authentic Woodland Indian village for "First People of Michigama: Pontiac's Rebellion," an event commemorating Michigan's original residents. The weekend features traditional Native crafts, cooking, games, and trade at the French fur trading post. A lamplight tour on Saturday night will highlight Michigan's pre-statehood history. June 28 & 29: Grass Lake
Blacksmiths, Soldiers, and Log Cabin Weekend will feature more opportunities than ever for children and adults to enjoy hands-on pioneer experiences at the Waterloo Area Historical Society's Farm Museum. Spend the day in the Civil War Encampment, try your hand at wood carving, or learn how to make socks on a 19th century sock machine. The weekend culminates as we join Michigan's statewide Log Cabin Day celebration, when you can observe a young couple setting up housekeeping in their log house. June 16 - August 8: Lansing
Summer Sizzles Day Camp 2008 History will, once again, be hot as the Michigan Historical Museum presents its annual Summer Sizzles Day camp. The Camp, now in its ninth year, offers a variety of programming for children ages 9 through 12 and

Now through July 25: The Clarke Historical Library at Central Michigan University in Mt.
Pleasant, MI announces the opening of its new exhibit: "When France Claimed Michigan, 1608-1763." The Library's hours are from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. weekdays. The Library is not open on Saturdays in the summer. For more information call (517) 774-3517.

Michigan Women's Historical Center and Hall of Fame has a new exhibit entitled "Ladies of the Lights: Michigan Women in the U.S. Lighthouse Service." This exhibit explores the rich history of women who defied common stereotypes and took on the hard and harsh responsibility of being a lighthouse keeper. Incorporating different mediums including audio, video as well as hands on features enhance the visitors experience.

Quilts and Human Rights, an exhibit now on display at the MSU Museum, explores the role of quilting in raising awareness regarding human rights issues across the globe. Works on Paper Gallery: Julie Mehretu - New Drawings. The Art Museum is privileged to exhibit recent drawings by Julie Mehretu, whose paintings are featured currently at the Detroit Institute of Arts as their inaugural special exhibition in the newly reopened museum. Mehretu was born in Ethiopia and grew up in East Lansing where her father is on the MSU faculty. She has lived in New York, Rhode Island, Addis Ababa, Dakar, and Berlin and currently is in residence in mid-Michigan. Her work has been featured internationally including at the Whitney Biennial and Carnegie International and she is the recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship (2005) and Joan Mitchell Foundation grant.

Grand Ledge Historical Society Museum exhibit "Getting Around: Travel in Grand Ledge" features horse drawn, rail, river, auto and air travel memorabilia, including a 1900 cutter and the depot pot-bellied stove, many pictures of early riverboats, horse drawn delivery wagons and models of autos and local National Guard aircraft.
