How to Format and Submit a Calendar Listing
An ideal calendar submission is both informative and concise. It should include the host organization’s name, the event’s time and location, and a brief description about the event. To illustrate how events and exhibits should be formatted, we have included an example listing below.
August 1, 2012 – Somewhere, Michigan
The Somewhere Historical Society presents the “The History of Our Town Festival.” Festival activities include a reenactment of the community’s founding, butter-churning demonstrations, and tours of the Somewhere Cemetery. The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Somewhere Historical Museum, located at 123 W. Somewhere St. Admission is free. For more information, visit www.somewheremichigan.org or call (616) 555-5555.
You can submit your listing in one of two ways:
1) Format your event or exhibit information in a similar manner to the example above, and send it to hsm@hsmichigan.org.* Your submission should include the date and city in the header and the description should include the sponsoring organization’s name, name of event/exhibit, a brief description of the features of the event, time, specific location, admission information, and how to contact your organization for more information. If your organization is an HSM member, we will provide direct hotlinks to your website.
OR
2) Enter your event or exhibit information using the HSM Calendar Submission Form.
*Events may also be submitted via fax at (517) 324-4370, or by mail to The Historical Society of Michigan, 5815 Executive Drive, Lansing, MI 48911.
